Aging Skin or Menopausal Skin?

Dry skin? New wrinkles? Textural issues? Did you know more than half of women blame those changes on just getting older when in fact menopause may be part of their problem?

A recent survey from Galderma, a skincare company, found fewer than 1 in 3 women connected their skin changes to menopause. Half didn't know hormones could affect skin at all. Most had already bought anti-aging products hoping they'd help.

As estrogen drops, a woman's skin loses collagen and moisture faster. It can get thinner, drier and itchier. Fine lines and wrinkles start to show up too.

So here are a few simple things that help:

  • Use a gentle cleanser (and skip the hot water)

  • Use antioxidants twice a day after you wash or shower, while your skin is still damp

  • Sunscreen every morning, even when it's cloudy (yes, even in winter)

  • Run a humidifier in the bedroom once the heat comes on

If your skin is really bothering you, ask your doctor at your next checkup.

Some women also add Midlife Cream to their routine.
